Pioneering Research in Polar Sciences and Space Meteorology, Now Advancing Drone Technologies for Environmental Monitoring

Prof. Dr. (De Facto) Wayan Suparta
Ir. Wayan Suparta, Ph.D.

Ir. Wayan Suparta, Ph.D. is a Professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering of Faculty of Engineering at Naresuan University, Thailand. He is an internationally recognized researcher, educator, and innovator whose work bridges aerospace engineering, remote sensing, environmental monitoring, and sustainable technologies.

He received his Ph.D. in Electrical, Electronic and Systems Engineering from Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) in 2008. Throughout his academic career, he has served at leading institutions in Thailand, Malaysia, and Indonesia, contributing to teaching, research, and international scientific collaboration.

Professor Suparta is widely known for his pioneering contributions to space meteorology and atmospheric sciences. Between 2008 and 2017, he became the first Indonesian scientist to conduct scientific research in both Antarctica and the Arctic, focusing on satellite remote sensing, space weather, climate variability, and GPS-based atmospheric and ionospheric studies. His research achievements have received numerous international awards and recognitions, including gold and silver medals, best paper awards, and the distinction of having his Antarctic research commemorated on a Malaysian postage stamp.

His current research focuses on the development and application of advanced unmanned aerial systems (UAS), particularly quadcopter and hexacopter platforms for atmospheric profiling, air-quality monitoring, environmental assessment, precision agriculture, and logistics services. By integrating drone technology, artificial intelligence, and remote sensing, he aims to develop practical solutions that support sustainability and smart environmental management.

Professor Suparta has authored numerous books and scientific publications and actively contributes to international research networks, conferences, and professional organizations. As a Professional Engineer (Ir.) and member of IEEE and IGRSM, he remains committed to advancing science, engineering innovation, and global collaboration for the benefit of society.

Through this website, visitors can explore his research projects, publications, books, awards, and international collaborations.
